What is a Constitutional Republic?

The European Founding Fathers of the United States of America established a Republic form of government to promote individual freedom and LIMITED the power of the government. They believed that the best way to protect individual rights and prevent the abuse of power was to create a government that was accountable to the people, and this is exactly what they did by drafting the Constitution.

Use of the military to support civil authorities stems from core national values as expressed in the Constitution.
